Meet Jane Ramsey

Jane Ramsey is an Australian contemporary artist celebrated for her bold, expressive abstract florals and intuitive use of colour. Working primarily in oil from her Tallebudgera studio, she creates paintings that explore emotion through gesture, texture, and the spontaneous rhythm of mark-making.

Nurtured by a childhood rich in creative exploration, Ramsey found her love of painting when she first picked up oils in high school. She went on to study at the Brisbane Institute of Art, and in 2011 completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts at Queensland University of Technology.

Her early practice was defined by intricate pen drawings and figurative compositions, before evolving into abstraction after the birth of her three children. This transition marked a pivotal shift toward a freer, more instinctive process—one that prioritises feeling over form.

Ramsey’s practice is distinguished by her confident use of colour and a dynamic sense of movement that brings each composition to life. She describes her process as an open dialogue with the canvas, allowing each piece to unfold organically through layers of paint and emotion.

From her studio nestled among gum trees and open paddocks, Ramsey continues to cultivate a distinctive visual language that celebrates authenticity, energy, and the quiet beauty found in everyday moments.
